'Becky's New Car' Revs Up at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center Next Week

Georgia Ensemble Theatre chauffeurs in the New Year with it's latest production.

 

, continues its 19th season with the wickedly funny new comedy, "Becky’s New Car," running Jan. 5-22. 

The play - written by Steven Dietz and directed by Atlanta's own Shannon Eubanks - follows the life of Becky Foster, an average American woman who is stuck in middle age and middle management with no prospects for change. She's the type of woman who says she needs new shoes, but what she really wants is a new job. When she says she needs a new house, she really wants a new husband. And when she says she wants a new car, she wants a new life. Enter a socially inept millionaire who offers Becky an enticing new life.

The audience ride shotgun with Becky, played by Wendy Melkonian, as she faces her own fork in the road on a wickedly funny, inventive and touching ride through the perils of middle age.

"I am so looking forward to ushering in the new year at GET with this sassy new comedy for our third production of the season," said Artistic Director Robert J. Farley. "Our January productions have become audience favorites over the past several years, in the tradition of some of GET's most recent hits including 'Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks,' 'The Men of Mah Jongg' and Topher Payne’s 'Tokens of Affection.'"

GET will follow up "Becky' New Car" with productions of "The Foreigner," Feb. 23-March 11; and the musical "Ring of Fire: the Johnny Cash Musical Show," April 12-29.

"Becky’s New Car" runs Jan. 5-22, with performances on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., Thursdays - Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. There will also be two Saturday 4 p.m. matinees: Jan. 14 and 21.
