Alpharetta Community Chorus Debuts on Nov. 3

Music educators, students and community members join chorus.

The newly formed Alpharetta Community Chorus will present its debut concert, directed by Thomas and Robin Yackley, retired Fulton County music educators. The performance will take place in the Alpharetta Presbyterian Church sanctuary (180 Academy Street) at 3 p.m.

The non-auditioned chorus was formed in September 2013. At present, the 35 members include current and retired music educators, students, and community members from all walks of life.  Thomas Yackley said, “We wanted to offer local singers an opportunity to cultivate their passion.”  Robin added, “It has been so much fun to come together and make music with these folks! We are looking forward to seeing the chorus grow.”

Adding another dimension to the arts events in the community, the group’s initial concert will include a variety of selections ranging from compositions of Brahms and Mendelssohn to Pete Seeger and Duke Ellington. The concert is free and open to the public. A collection will be taken to defray expenses.
