Puberty is a time in a child’s life that a parent always anticipates and often worries about. A point of change when young boys turn into a young men - Father and Son Puberty class this Sunday, Oct. 23, can help ease both parent and child into the change.
“Puberty within a young man’s life begins between roughly between the ages of 12-15, says Jacob Varghese, a doctor with North Fulton Primary Care. “During that time, physical, emotional and social changes take place that may start to challenge the parent and the child’s relationship.”
Common changes within a male adolescent include increased hormones, voice change, growth spurts, a desire for more independence and an interest in the opposite sex.

“Feeling comfortable talking to your child about these changes without making them feel embarrassed or self-conscious is often tough on a parent,” said Varghese. “Knowing how to approach their adolescent years in a healthy manner can make the transition much easier on a parent and child.”
The Father and Son Puberty class begins at 2 p.m. in the hospital classrooms. Facilitated by Varghese, a family practice physician, fathers and their sons will tackle the topic of puberty and the changes to come. The class is for fathers/male guardians and young men within the age range of 9-15 years old.
