Moms Talk: Where Is Your Family's Favorite Place To Go On A Day Trip?

Your Alpharetta-Milton Moms Council answers your questions and invites you to join in on the discussion.

Each week, readers write in to Patch by clicking the email the author button and pose a question for the Alpharetta Moms Council. This group of moms then answers the questions and turns it around and asks readers to join in on the discussion as well. We hope you will join us this week as we discuss the question that was sent in to us.

With summer quickly passing, many families are headed out of town on vacation. But, for so many, doing this is not possible this summer. one mom wrote into Patch asking if readers could respond to her question of where to take the family on a day trip that is fun for the kids but will not require an overnight stay.

Q: Where is your family's favorite place to go on a day trip?

A: Our family likes to go to Helen. The kids love to go to the shops and walk up and down the street. We get home made fudge and icecream. Sometimes we will go miniature golfing and one of these days we would like to go tubing there as well. There is a fun place up there called Goats On the Roof and the goats really do hang out on the roof. It is a relatively short drive and a lot of fun for everyone.

Another great place is Amacalola Falls. this is a fun place to take the family and go on a walk or picnic. We like to visit the nature center there too. -Tammy Bester, mom of 3

A: My favorite day was going to Helen to go tubing. It isn't that far of a drive, scenic as well. You can do a long or short tube ride and then you can hang out in Helen get something to eat, shop etc. It is a nice day that combines a fun outside activity with relaxation as well. -Teri Harrison, mom of 1

A: This question brings back wonderful memories of days spent creatively cheap in an effort to remain a stay at home mom. I struggle with the fact that as my kids get older, doing things together with them becomes increasingly difficult (and even when I do pull it off, someone is not going to let me forget that I'm ruining their day because they'd rather be with friends.... or ANYWHERE else!).

When my kids were younger and I had the control to choose what we did, we spent many days at the park. We'd meet up with friends (who were really the children of the women I wanted to hang out with!) and stroll the paths, play on the playground, pack a picnic.  Sometimes we'd go to each other's houses. It always seemed to be a desperate attempt to have a conversation with another adult. I remember feeling like I never finished a sentence or thought during those get togethers anyway. I don't know what I would have done without the Mother's group I belonged to that gave me adult social outlets as well as organized events with the kids. - Audrey Greenwood, mom of 3
