Great Escape: Invest In An Electronic Book Reader

Patch offers a fabulous idea for a Great Escape for parents who are in need of a break but can't seem to get away.

As parents, we all need to get away from it all once in a while. Depending on the family, this is very easy to do and for others it is extremely difficult. As a parent of a special needs child who lives 2,000 miles away from my family, I was not fortunate enough to be able to get that break from the kids too much when they were very young. I was tired and worn out. I knew that I needed the break, but struggled to get it.

Patch understands this need. So, each week, we set out to come up with one inspirational idea for you to get that Great Escape that you need to make you a better parent. Sometimes we suggest places to go that are close by and would require you to be gone from the kids for just a few hours and sometimes we come up with fabulous weekend retreats. But, we also have the need to come up with ideas for parents to get away without ever leaving the house as well. For many of us, this is the only Great Escape we can get.

This week, Patch suggests that you make an investment in a electronic reading device–ebook reader–such as a Kindle or a Nook. We all know that reading books can take us away to anywhere we could ever desire to be, but so often it is hard to plan ahead and have a book on hand to read or to even get that break to get down to the bookstore to see what we would want to read. This is the wonderful part about these devices. They allow you to take that time to read with no notice and readers can get their hands on any book at any time. We can get it in small print or large print, and as soon as we want it, we get it. We can read for five minutes or five hours and the device will remember exactly where we left off.

If you are not sure what you would even read, never fear as you can get the top books in every genre right from your home page. You can also search by title or author. Within seconds of powering up your device, you can have a new novel waiting for you. It is so simple and so fast. Magazines and newspapers can also be read on the devices.

I have been one of those parents that has always been amazed by other parents who have had the time to read. I never thought that I could find the time. I wondered when they did it and how they could. Now, I find it so easy to find the time. When I am waiting for the kids to get out of school or camp and am sitting in the carpool line, I can power on the Kindle and read for 2 minutes or 15 minutes. The waiting rooms at various appointments are also great places. While dinner is cooking and the kids are on the Xbox for their 15 minutes of playtime is another perfect sneak away time. Because it is small enough, the devices can fit in handbags and diaper bags and pulled out whenever parents have a break. This makes it so much easier to get that Great Escape whenever you find those spare few minutes to grab one.

On top of this being a great escape idea, this can also be bought without you ever feeling guilty that you spent money on yourself. There are so many kids books available as well. And, when you are not in the mood to read to the kids, but the kids are dying for that story, the devices can read the books out loud.

The investment of around $100 will get you as the parent many hours of breaks from your reality as you dive into a good book and it will provide years of entertainment for the kids too. Buying an ebook reader is a guilt free Great Escape.

Kindle books are products of Amazon and Nook is by Barnes And Noble.
