Great Escape: Go For A Drive To See The Fall Leaves

Each week, Patch comes up with an idea for moms to get a break from the stresses of everyday life. So many women are juggling being a mom, a wife, a housekeeper, a teacher, a taxi driver and so much more. When these ladies can get away, even just for a short break, they can rejuvenate and be ready to face the world with the calmness needed to be a great mom and wife.

Often, we find an idea that brings couples together for a night or weekend away. Sometimes, we come up with an idea for girls to get together without the men. But, sometimes we have to get creative and realize that truly getting away for some moms is not always possible. This is when we come up with activities or ideas that involve the kids being there but not really there. These plans are great for parents of special needs kids, moms who nurse, those who do not have someone to watch the kids or those who simply can not leave the kids for some other reason. This week's Great Escape is just for you. 

This is the perfect time of year to see the fall colors in the leaves in Georgia. There are many back roads and the further north you travel, the more color you will see right now, This week, why not hop in the car and drive with your husband. Just keep driving, without a place in particular to go. Just drive north and relax. 

For those who can not leave the kids, this is a trip that the kids can be occupied in the back seat of the minivan for. Pop in movie after movie in the dvd player in the car and pass out the headphones. Buy the kids some candy and let them enjoy their own break from the parents. Bring coloring books, small toys and whatever the kids need to keep themselves occupied. Then keep driving. The adults in the front seat can relax and enjoy the scenery. 

Without a specific place to go, you can be adventurous. Choose to keep going and stop when you see a place where you would like to eat. There are stands and home cooking restaurants all over in north Georgia. if you want to make a weekend of it, stop when you see a quaint B&B and see if they have availability. Or, wait 'til you get to a town you would like to stay in and then go to a travel website and find a hotel then. 

This would make a nice day trip or a weekend adventure. It is one that you can do alone as a couple or if you need to, you can bring the kids and occupy them so you can still have your peace. You could always keep the kids up very late the night before so they sleep in the car while you drive. If the kids are older, give them their Ipod or hand held video game and they wont say a word for hours.
