Get Out: Things to Do This Weekend

Spend this August weekend supporting a variety of benefits from cancer to Special Olympics and disadvantaged children in Jamaica.

Where/When: , 6190 Parkway North Dr, Cumming, GA 30040, Friday, Aug. 26, 1–9 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 27 9 a.m. -3 p.m.

Why Go?: A great event to raise money to fight cancer. There is a $20 entry fee which includes targets and range time. Particpants will pistol shoot at 7 meters & 15 meters 2 Targets - 20 rounds per target. You can bring your own gun or rent one at the range. Ammo will be available for purchase, or bring your own. Arrive anytime between 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Friday or 9 a.m. -3 p.m. on Saturday. Prizes will be presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and an additional prize drawing. Plus, get $5 off a Shoot to Kill (Cancer) t-shirt at Big Frog with your registration!

Why Go?: What began as a desire to "compete" against other teams in preparation for the state games grew into the BATTLE OF THE BATS. This softball invitational has become a highly anticipated sporting event for friends, family and community members who support Special Olympics Forsyth. Over 22 Special Olympic softball teams from Georgia and bordering states compete for the Gold. Over 350 Special Olympic athletes, coaches, volunteers, family and friends will descend on Central Park, August 27th. The competition is fierce, lasting friendships are made and smiles are everywhere. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!! Be a sponsor, make a donation,  help sell raffle tickets!!!

Why Go?: Come join Director Ben Team as we investigate what goes "bump" in the night inside our 46-acre nature preserve. Dress for the outdoors. Bring a flashlight and sense of adventure! All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by parents.

Why Go?; Join the Arts Center and meet our instructors for upcoming fall classes and programs while enjoying an ice cream treat.

Why Go?: The "Teen Boss" Workshop for teenage entrepreneurs will inspire and teach you how to start your own business and become an entrepreneur! It encourages creativity and gives solid business advice from goal-setting to asking for help, pricing & profits to customer service, and marketing to licenses & taxes. You even discuss saving for the future. Tommy Johns, a successful entrepreneur who turned a fun hobby into a successful business, leads the session.

Why Go?: The Internationals formed in 2008 by Cumming natives Jody Abernathy and Mark Mundy  showcase their original country music.

Why Go?: Join the 4th Annual Rowdy RALPH Run 5k! This 5K course begins at Wills Park and runs through beautiful downtown Alpharetta. The Family Fun Run is a one mile loop that will begin once the 5k is complete. All proceeds will go towards Young Life North Fulton. This race is part of the Run & See Georgia Grand Prix Racing Series.

Price: $25 race day registration

Why Go?: The Walkathon is ICF’s latest effort to share the news of their efforts and to raise funds towards the eradication of teenage illiteracy in Jamaica.  The family picnic will start at 2 p.m. under the Lions Pavilion and the 3K Walkathon will start at 5 p.m

Where/When: 616 Atlanta St, Roswell, GA 30075, Sunday Aug. 28, 2011, 2–4 p.m.

Why Go?: Are you ready to eat all the homemade Ice Cream you want?  Come to Miss Mary’s Ice Cream Crankin’ at the Historic Roswell Town Square and taste over 100 unique flavors of homemade Ice Cream like Orange Mango Sorbet, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Crunchy Brownie and Tropical Delight.  There will also be Ice Cream eating and stacking contests, music, snow cones, popcorn, face painting and children’s games.  Emceed by “Sully” of 92.9 dave fm.

Recycled Animal Craft Show and Award Ceremony

Why Go?: Come out and see all of the entries of in our first Recycled Animal Craft Contest.   CNC’s Celebrity Box Turtle will be on hand to award the winners of the Recycled Turtle Craft Contest and to meet all the participants and CNC visitors.
