Get Out: Things to Do This Weekend

This weekend activities include a movie at the pool, a run for research, a play and Cuban cooking.

Where/When: , 1825 Old Milton Pkwy., Alpharetta, GA 30009, Friday, July 22, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go?: Join us poolside with your floats to enjoy a fantastic family movie on the big screen and a whole lot of fun. The Friday Night Dive In is sponsored by Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. The movie begins at dusk (between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.). 2011 pool pass-holders are admitted free of charge. Refreshments will be available at the concession stand with proceeds benefitting the Alpharetta Golden Age Club

Why Go:? Act 1, Alpharetta Christian Theater presents To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The play is about Scout Finch who learns valuable lessons of humanity, compassion and what it means to be a good neighbor as her father fights a case in court.

Where/When: Atlantic Station 2420 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, GA 30324, Saturday July 23, 6 a.m.–12 p.m.

Why Go?: Join this exciting 5K Race and 2K Fun Run/Walk. Established in 1999 by the Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation (www.sbtf.org), an Atlanta-based adult and research-focused organization, the Race for Research has raised more than $1.2 million for brain tumor research over the years. For the first time, the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children is joining forces with the Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation for this event to raise even greater awareness of the disease that takes so many lives. All proceeds will support critical brain tumor research, with all BTFC raised funds going toward pediatric brain tumor research.

Why Go?: Do you love Cuban food? Sit back and relax as our Apron’s staff teaches you through these flavor-filled recipes -- Classic Cuban Sandwich; Empanada Duo (Chicken and Beef); Arroz con Pollo; Dulche de Leche Ice Cream.

Where/When: , 11030 Medlock Bridge Rd, Johns Creek, GA 30097, Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m.–10 p.m.

Why Go?: Primarily geared toward adults - enjoy a different painting featured each night, step by step instruction and all painting supplies provided.  It's all about relaxing and having an enjoyable night out whether you are by yourself, with friends or family. You are welcome to bring your favorite food & beverages! Wine glasses and bottle openers are available.
