Food, Football and Good Bugs: This Weekend Has it All

Start your weekend Thursday night with Taste of Alpharetta, find out what bugs are good and bad for your garden and face a challenge from the mayor.

Where/When: Old Milton Pkwy & Wills Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30009 (Wills Park), May 12, Thursday, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Why: Enjoy the largest "Taste of" event in the South celebrates its 21st.  Sample delicious appetizers, entrees and desserts, experience chef's competition, cooking demonstrations and exhibits from more than 60 different restaurants.

The Patrick Nelson Flag Football Follies

Why: The Alpharetta/Johns Creek community has joined forces to plan a fundraiser in support of the Nelson family. Join the community at the Chattahoochee High School Football Stadium for a fun and exciting day of COED Flag Football!  Gather 7-10 of your most energetic friends to form a team.  There will be 3 categories of teams that can be formed: Middle School, High School and Adults. 

Price: $10 Adults; $10 Participant; and $5 Students

Where/When: Old Milton Pkwy & Wills Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30009 (Will Park Pool), May 14, Saturday, 7:15 a.m.

Why: Join the Alpharetta Rotary Club and the City of Alpharetta for the 15th Annual Mayor's Challenge.  The race is a 5K/10K Peachtree Qualifier for the serious runner as well as a Fun Run/Walk for the whole family. The proceeds go to support the community projects of the Alpharetta Rotary. 

Price: Early - $25 or $30 to add raffle ticket; $30 late, $40 with raffle ticket

Where/When: , 11925 Wills Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30009, May 14, Saturday, 11 a.m.

Why: Insects can hurt or help our gardens. Please visit the Alpharetta Community Garden at Wills Park on Saturday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m. for the class "Good Bugs and Bad Bugs in the Garden". Learn to identify which is which and how to rid your garden of unwanted insects.

Where/When: , 9135 Willeo Rd, Roswell, GA 30075, Saturday May 14, 12:30 p.m.–2 p.m.

Why: Are you ready to start paddling but not sure of where to start? Join the Chattahoochee Nature Center to discover the basics of canoeing including boat basics and paddling techniques. Spend some time on one of the CNC’s ponds to practice your skills.

Price: $15 Non-Members/$10 Members

Where/When: 38 Hill St, Roswell, GA 30075, May 14th Saturday 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

Why: Alpharetta and Roswell are pleased to present a one-day-only backyard compost bin and rain barrel distribution event. Items will be available for purchase at the Roswell City Hall parking lot located at 38 Hill Street. This green initiative will feature Earth Machine™ Backyard Compost Bins and Systern Rain Barrels which will be available for $45 and $55 respectively (tax included). These are available on a first-come-first-served basis. A North Fulton Master Gardener will discuss tips on how to make compost with this type of unit.
