Five Things: Take Advantage of the Warm Weather Today

Families can find fun things to do outside

Back in August 60 degrees would have felt cool, but today, it's a heat wave. So, what are you going to do on this extra warm winter day?

Remember when mom told you to wear a sweater outdoors? You still might need it, or at least a light jacket. Even though it will reach 60 degrees at 2 p.m., that's not as warm as you keep your house.

To help you out, here are five things you might want to consider:

  1. Take a walk on the . With 6.2 miles of linear trail, you could walk 12.4 miles from end to end. And since it connects with Roswell's trail system, you could really take a hike. But there are plenty of access points for much shorter hikes.
  2. Play Disc Golf. You missed Saturday's tournament, but that doesn't mean you can't have your own fun. There's an 18-hole disc golf course at that recently was renovated and improved, with hole one near the Lions Pavilion near the. A regular disc will do, but you can spend $8-$15 for a specialty disc.
  3. Hit the links. Dedicated golfers won't even let snow stop them from playing a few holes, but that's not a worry today.
  4. Take the kids to the park. In the "old days," there were no video games or Internet, and watching TV was a privilege. Turn off the TV, leave even the handheld game players behind, and take the family to the park. The younger children will enjoy the playgrounds at and . has playground equipment and a big grassy area for some fun. And you can sneak in some education at with its environmental lessons.
  5. Take the dog to the park. No kids at home, or do you just want to get away from them? There's no reason for the family pet to suffer. is a dog's answer to , and both are at Wills Park. Pull into the parking lot at the and walk Fido behind the center and to the right of the event lawn. Then unhook the leash and let him run free–inside the fenced in park, that is. There's space for big and little dogs, too.
