Crabapple Group's Members Ready for Community's New Master Plan to Begin

Locals met at Olde Blind Dog Pub to talk more about their hopes for the Crabapple area.

With Lew Oliver’s master plan for the Crabapple area finally available to the public, some members of the Crabapple Community Association said they are ready for the plan's proposals to begin.

But the group, which met at Olde Blind Dog Pub Thursday evening to discuss the area's future, was reminded that plan proposed by the city's consultant and his company, Whole Town Solutions, is not a done deal.

The association’s president, Kat Walker said that since there’s been talk of redevelopment in the area the group has seen their numbers steadily increase.

Members were anxious to see the Master Plan up close and discuss it amongst themselves.

One of those members, Lee Crump can’t wait to see the proposed changes made.

“I’m glad to see something going on with the area,” he said.

Mayor Joe Lockwood reminded the group that the plan is “not something set in stone.”

He then invited Milton City Manager Chris Lagerbloom to explain further, “This is a vision plan. We need to figure out if this is the best plan.”

According to Lagerbloom the next step is comparing Oliver’s plan with the existing plan to see what works and what does not.

Milton resident Kelly Reinkemeyer said she’s very happy with the new plan but knows that that changes will be made.

“Nothing's ever perfect and there’ll be some tweaking,” she said. But she hopes that the added trees and widened sidewalks will stay put.

The Crabapple Community Association began last summer as a way for locals to gather and express their ideas for the area. Members meet on the second Thursday of every other month and the meeting is open to everyone. For more information, contact contact Sally Rich-Kolb at 770-448-3860.
