'Back to the Chattahoochee' River Race and Festival is Saturday

Registration to compete in the race is closed, but anyone can stop by the festival at Riverside Park in Roswell.

With more racers, more live music and more vendors, the 11th Annual Back to the Chattahoochee River Race & Festival this Saturday, June 15, promises to be quite the event.

Each year, the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, in partnership with the National Park Service and the city of Roswell, invite metro Atlantans to go "Back to the Chatt."

The event begins at 9 a.m. at Garrard Landing Park on Holcomb Bridge Road, near Johns Creek, with competitive and recreational categories for kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards. (Registration is closed) More than 350 paddlers are expected to take on the 8-mile course, which includes scenic rapids and concludes at Riverside Park where racers will be treated to a couple of complimentary brews from the SweetWater Beer Barge.

A free festival at Roswell’s Riverside Park, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will greet paddlers and provide some excitement for non-racers. The family-friendly event will include live music, food, children's activities and an array of artisans, outfitters, environmental exhibitors and an awards presentation. The festival also includes appearances by Captain Planet, One More Generation’s Bag Monster, Atlanta Hawks Flight Crew, Georgia Disc Dogs, and zombie face-painting by Professor Morte. A rocking music lineup features Jimmy Hall and Friends, with the lead singer of Georgia Music Hall of Fame inductee Wet Willie (“Keep On Smilin’”); the Women of Rock trio of Caroline Aiken, Diane Durrett and Donna Hopkins; and the Music Matters “Rock U” Bands!
