Murphy Green was a member of the winning team at the Youth North American Bridge Championships.

An University of Georgia student from Alpharetta has rocketed to national prominence in a national bridge championship.

Murphy Green, 19, of Alpharetta, along with Johns Creek teens Andrew Jeng, 16, and Richard Jeng, 13, were members of the team that won the National Youth Swiss Teams event at the Youth North American Bridge Championships (YNABC).

The championships, which were held earlier this month in Atlanta, was the second consecutive win for the team in the contest.

Last year, he was named King of Bridge, which is an honor bestowed upon a graduating high school senior with an excellent bridge record that "positively promotes the game," according to a press release from the ACBL.

Last summer, Green was a member of the USA 2 team, which competed for the Damiani Cup at the 14th annual World Youth Bridge Team Championships in Taicang, China.

Green also received the peer-chosen Sportsmanship Award last year.
