Alpharetta, Milton Interact Clubs Put Service Above Self

Students at Independence, Milton and Cambridge work to prevent polio, against distracted driving and provide shoes for others.

Interact Clubs at Independence, Cambridge and Milton completed service projects to prevent polio, distracted driving and provide shoes.

The Rotary Club of Alpharetta sponsors the Interact Clubs of Independence High School, Cambridge High School and Milton High School; all three schools recently completed service projects as part of their requirements.

The three clubs, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Alpharetta, won awards for their participation in a pledge drive campaign to raise awareness and reduce distracted driving. The school clubs used various publicity efforts to get students to pledge to drive distraction free. Independence High School won first place with 70 percent participation, Milton High School won second place with 42 percent participation and Cambridge High School won third place.

Milton High School Interact Club conducted another service project by collecting 140 pairs of shoes and delivered them to Never Enough Shoes.

Independence High School Interact Club held a “Wear a Hat for Polio Day” fundraiser at their school on Oct. 24 where students paid a dollar to wear a hat during school. They raised $75 and the Rotary Club of Alpharetta matched that amount.

“We are proud of the work the Interact Clubs from these schools are doing. They exemplify the Rotary motto ‘Service Above Self’ in our community,” said Bill Weeks, President of the Rotary Club of Alpharetta.
