Actor, Cartersville Native Dies at 41

Benji Wilhoite, known for his role in the 1982 film "Six Pack," passed away Monday.

Family members of Benji Wilhoite say he was found Tuesday morning deceased in New York where he lived. The actor and singer leaves behind four children.

Wilhoite may be best known for the song Rocky Top Tennessee in the movie Six Pack, but also had roles in several films and TV movies and series, such as the 1989 film Glory and the 2005 film False River. Wilhoite also appeared in the TV series In the Heat of the Night three times.

His first role was in the TV movie Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones in 1980.

Family members say arrangements are being handled in New York, but friends in Cartersville are working to plan a local memorial service.

I worked with Benji when he was in Georgia...he was an amazing soul...we used to talk about music,acting and life...I miss him more than I can express in words...it really hurts to the core...it really does....be blessed as you continue your journey...my friend and my brother.....from Anthony Shaw

I just learned of this shocking news. Benji & I grew up 2gether. He & I Clogged with the White City Cloggers in the early 80's with each other. He will always be remembered with some of the most Greatest Memories of my childhood & on! My sympathy goes out to his loving family.

My sister and I clogged with yall I am quite upset that I am just now finding out about this because I just happened to see it on facebook this is also scary for me because I am turning 40 on saturday and I have had a massive heart attack already

I was watching Benji today on my HEAT OF THE NIGHT dvd.He played the role of "Rusty".Such a great actor,I still can't believe he's passed on.Prayers go out to his family,and friends.
