Sapphire is a great dog at Atlanta Humane Society's Mansell Campus.

Our pet of the week this week is the exotic Sapphire. Sapphire is a 6 year old Thai Ridgeback mix - not a dog you'll see very often here at AHS. If you look down her back, you'll see a strip of fur that runs in the opposite direction of the rest of her coat, this is where the term 'ridgeback' comes from. With her rough blue-gray coat and those pointy ears, you'll know her when you see her. Don't let her age fool you, Sapphire can still out run a number of our younger residents and would do well as a jogging or walking companion. After a little exercise, Sapphire is more than content to lay back at home and chill. She is a little wary at first, and is best approached at a slow pace - it's a trait of her breed. A few sniffs here and there and she'll be more than happy to receive a nice long pet. An intelligent lady, Sapphire knows a number of commands such as 'sit', 'lay down', and 'shake'. Because of her wary nature, Sapphire would do best in a home without small children. She does, however, show interest in other dogs and may do well in a multi-dog home, so bring existing pets down to meet her! Like all AHS animals, Sapphire has been kept up to date on shots, flea treatment, and heartworm prevention. She is already spayed and microchipped.
