MIDDLE SCHOOL STARTING AT ALPHARETTA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Alpharetta Christian Academy values its reputation as a loving school where students grow physically, socially, mentally, and academically.  While we have served preschool and elementary students for many years, we are now beginning to add middle school, starting with sixth grade in the 2014-2015 school year.  The goal is to provide a safe and challenging learning environment to support parents and students through the middle school years when students are searching for their identity and fit in society.  We want to be available for those students and their families as a resource and a guide to help them through these sometimes challenging years and lead them to incorporate Christian principles in their daily life.

The curriculum will equip students for high school by giving them the strong educational foundation they will need for high school and more advanced classes.  Shurley English, which is used in the elementary classes, will continue in the middle school classes.  For more information on Shurley English, please visit http://www.alpharettachristianacademy.com/second-grade or http://www.alpharettachristianacademy.com/fifth-grade to see what the elementary students are learning.  The middle school English classes will be a continuation of this curriculum.  The math curriculum will launch the students into pre-algebra, while reinforcing and building upon concepts already covered.  Christian based science and social studies classes will allow the students to be active and involved learners.

The classes will be taught in block schedules, which will allow the students to have the advantage of extended instructional and exploration time in each class.  With the advantage of small classes the students will be able to have more hands-on and personalized instruction in all classes.  Block scheduling will allow the students to concentrate on only two academic classes each day, instead of four, and it will give home schooled students the possibility of attending as part time students.

Exploratory classes will be taught in 9 week blocks.  These classes will rotate but some of the options will be music, art, technology, career exploration, financial planning, speech/drama, robotics, business, family and consumer science, photography, and others.  To stay connected to the community and to learn the art of helping others, the students will be involved in a service project each year.
