The Dinosaurs are Coming! Local Students Perform in Regional Premiere of
Magic Treehouse’s “Dinosaurs Before Dark”
Alpharetta,
GA March 6, 2014: The
Off Broadway Children’s Theatre is pleased to present the regional premiere of MAGIC
TREE HOUSE: DINOSAURS BEFORE DARK KIDS, a musical adaptation based on the
award-winning book series, and New York
Times bestsellers, by Mary Pope Osborne. The cast consists of 30 local kids
between the ages of 5 and 12, first-time actors and seasoned veterans, who have
been working on this show since the beginning of January.
Some of the cast members
were fortunate enough to meet the book’s author, Mary Pope Osborne last year
when she spoke at the Junior Theatre Festival presented by Music Theatre
International in Atlanta. Unlike other shows, this production offers children the
unique opportunity to learn educational themes and life lessons, all while
singing and dancing.
In
MAGIC TREE
HOUSE: DINOSAURS BEFORE DARK KIDS, two siblings, Jack and
Annie, happen upon a mysterious tree house that is filled with a magnificent
collection of books covering a wide range of subjects. As they are looking at a
book about dinosaurs, Jack casually wishes they could go there – and,
magically, the siblings are transported to a land that looks exactly like the pictures
in the book. Finding themselves in a strange new world, populated with
dinosaurs they’ve only read about (including pteranodons, triceratops,
anatosauruses, and the legendary tyrannosaurus rex), the brother and sister
must rely on instinct and knowledge as they try to unravel the mystery of how
to return home.
In
addition to a wonderful score filled with beautiful melodies, the show’s book
is faithful to the language and tone of Mary Pope Osborne’s series. And much
like the book series, MAGIC TREE
HOUSE: DINOSAURS BEFORE DARK KIDS, contains important
educational themes supplemented with lesson plans in math, science and
technology, and English/language arts, making this musical the ultimate
interdisciplinary teaching tool.

Theatre has been a local leader in children’s theatre and related dance
instruction for fourteen years. They offer specialized and professional training
to students who are embarking on acting careers in children’s and high school theater,
and who want to share their passion while just being kids. This is what distinguishes

gone on to win state and national high school theater awards. Keeping with the
mission of educating their students to be the most prepared performers they can
be, Off Broadway offers monthly master classes from industry professionals in
addition to their weekly dance and theatre classes for 3-18 year olds.
