It’s that time of year when the holidays are upon us, and this is an ideal time to get a head start on plans for your interior décor. This way you can enjoy the festivities, enjoy the time with family and friends, and enjoy your home free from stress and last minute scrambling.
I have a lot of clients ask me about unique table setting ideas for the holidays, and I would like to share a few ideas with you:
If your interior design style is more traditional, then bring out the china, the silver and the crystal! These beautiful pieces are meant to be enjoyed not just stored in a cabinet. If you prefer the classic Christmas red, then incorporate it into your table setting with napkins, placements or chargers. Be careful not to overdo it, though. A little red goes a long way. Consider a colorful napkin or ribbon if your plates are not colorful.

I really like to introduce a different color scheme than the traditional red and green. Look around and see what other colors you use in your interior décor for ideas. You can find napkins, ornaments and accessories in many non-traditional colors. It is best to stick with one dominant color and accent with neutrals. For instance, this coastal inspired table setting would be ideal for those who might be enjoying their holiday at the beach or just want to create a more tropical feel for a cold wintry day The bright blue used in these table setting pieces can be balanced by crisp white linens, candles and silver accents.
Every table needs a little “bling”. Introducing metallic or mirrored pieces makes for a very festive look. Mirrored plate chargers or a large decorative bowl or hurricane lamps filled with shiny ornaments are ways to give your table a “bejeweled” look.

For a more casual setting, consider adding some elements from nature. Pieces such as pinecones, evergreen boughs, or small rosemary bushes in containers not only breathe some fresh life into your dining room, but the aromas can be quite pleasing and comforting as well.
Look for ways to create a more unusual or unexpected centerpiece. Instead of the outdated silk or dried floral arrangement, add a series of glass candle holders in various shapes and heights down the center of the table. Mix in some ornaments or pieces of greenery and voila!… you have created a centerpiece. Keep in mind the overall height so as not to obstruct the view of your dinner companions across the table. Candles are a must for any holiday table setting! Another quick idea is handwrite guests names on a place card and insert each one into a small decorative frame in front of their seat.
The main idea is to have some fun! Think outside of the box. Don’t be afraid to introduce non-holiday themed plates. Just because you have an entire 12 piece place setting of Pfalzgraff doesn’t mean you have to use it all together. It is much more interesting to add some different pieces into the mix.
