Rain May Give Way to Snow This Morning

At 5 a.m. rain was pouring down in Alpharetta near Westside and Windward parkways, but that might give way to snow between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service forecast. The temperature continues to drop but it remains above freezing.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather advisory at 5:20 a.m., stating that with temperatures falling into the mid-30s this morning, some of the rain will become mixed with and then change to snow before ending. Up to a half inch of snow could briefly accumulate on grassy surfaces. However with temperatures expected to remain above freezing, roads are not expected to become icy.

Alpharetta and Milton remain under a flood warning and wind advisory until 7 p.m. today. Big Creek near Kimball Bridge Road was at 6.24 feet at 5 a.m. Minor flooding begins at 7 feet and that could still happen today. It's likely only the Big Creek Greenway would be affected, but few people are likely to be using the trail during the cold, wet early morning hours.

Even after the chance for snow ends, it's never going to warm up today. The high will be near 37 degrees.

Once you get through the morning commute, the wind will be felt the most today. A northwest wind around 20 mph will make it feel colder, and the gusts as high as 35 mph will make that even worse.

It will be cloudy through mid morning, and then a gradual clearing will occur.

Tonight will be even chillier, with a low around 23. The wind will begin to lessen, dropping to 5-15 mph with 20 mph gusts.

Thanksgiving Day will be sunny and slightly warmer with a high near 44.
