Thousands Fill Downtown Alpharetta Streets

Taste of Alpharetta's move back downtown seemed to be a hit with everyone except perhaps motorists caught in heavier than normal traffic.

Thousands of people filled the streets of downtown Alpharetta Thursday night for five hours to enjoy samples of signature dishes from the 52 restaurants participating in Taste of Alpharetta.

After a few years on Old Milton Parkway in front of Wills Park, the city brought its biggest event back downtown. Despite the traffic congestion that caused, and how quickly the closest parking lots filled up, the crowds kept coming all night long. Many restaurants ran out of food before the event was over, whether they were cooking on site or bringing batch after batch of food from restaurants all around Alpharetta, Milton and other nearby cities.

Two stages filled the night air with music, and the new location provided a separation that made it easier to enjoy whichever music was picked. Music Matters brought its Rock U talent from local young bands, while tribute bands took the main stage on Milton Avenue.

...DOGS?...What the frack people?...this isn't the place for them and its one of the reasons I haven't gone the last few years...the sweltering heat and humidity being the other.

I was actually pretty disappointed last night. The food selection was okay, I miss the Varsity showing up, but it was nice to see a few Milton restaurants participating.

I am convinced now that Alpharetta has it's fair share of morons and rude people, including the above mentioned people with dogs. I honestly think that they should have be stopped at the entrances and asked to take their animals home...really!

And obviously there are quite a few people that didn't get the memo that smoking kills.

Your culinary tastes appear to be limited to the The Varsity, Waffle House and MacDonald's, so you are missing the point of having the event in the first place. And if all you do is complain, do us a favor and don't go.

I thought the event was wonderful except that when arriving at 8pm, people were trying to unload their tickets on me as most vendors were running out of food! While maybe that meant crowds were much larger than expected, a good thing for them, it was a disappointment for anyone coming later in the evening. Even without many food choices left though, the event was a terrific and exciting place to just go and walk around. Can't wait for next year but will go earlier.

Excuse me...I tried many different things, they were all just bland and nothing stood out.

This should be a family event that can be enjoyed without stepping around animals or trying to avoid people blowing smoke in my face. If you don't like my hometown, leave.

Your spelling appears to be limited to phonetics...McDonalds.

I had the opportunity to work the event and speak to many, many people. It was a pleasure to see so many people. The city did a remarkable job hosting the event. Many thanks to Kim and her staff.

We attended the event last night and thought it was absolutely terrific! Made me very happy and proud to be a citizen of Alpharetta.

Although we have no children, my husband and I were delighted to see such a family oriented event. Everyone we talked to seemeed to be enjoying themselves!
