The new year is the perfect time to get your house organized. It is a new beginning and a chance to recreate your own space. Whether you need to overhaul the kids bedrooms, put shelves up in the garage or clean out the basement, January is a perfect time to do it. Organizational items seem to be in stores all across Alpharetta and the weather is supposed to be wet this weekend so you won't feel like you are missing out on on some outdoor fun family time.
Alpharetta-Milton Patch is ready to help you get your house organized and to help you save money while doing it. We have checked the local prices of what you may need and have found that you will not have to go far to get a good deal.
Home Depot and Lowes both sell moving boxes in various sizes for under $1 each. These giant boxes are great for sorting, storing and for boxing up items to take to your favorite donation center without making a large investment. This will be the cheapest way to store the stuff you find that you just can not part with yet but have no need to have accessible. If you buy several of these boxes and label them well, they will stack nicely in the corner of your basement until you need them.
These stores also carry packing materials. Glass and china packing supplies are great for packing and storing these items but also make excellent storage containers for Christmas decorations, glass figurines and other small breakable items.
Books For Less will buy those books you have read and now are just collecting dust on the shelf off of your hands. The store may offer you cash for them or they may offer you trade in credit for the books. Whichever the case in your circumstance, you get the clutter out of your house and the credit towards new books later when you need them and someone else can get the book they are looking for at a discounted price. It is a win win.
Babies R Us and Toys R Us carry toy boxes and storage units for kids. Many of these units have open fronts and make for easy sorting and organizing. Turning your child's room into an organized play space will not only make it look better, but it can also serve as a sorting and classification game for your child.
Currently, Babies R US has many of their baskets and shelf lining storage totes on sale at a buy one, get one at half off discount. Toys R Us has a storage bin set that rests on wooden shelves on sale this week for under $45.
These are great for Lego's, Barbie toys and all of the little toys that never quite have a real home and end up on the bottom of the toy box. If toy boxes are what you need, they have many of these on sale this week as well. From plastic basic ones that are priced under $30 to solid wood ones priced well over $100, Toys R Us has a wide variety of toy and storage boxes for kids.
Target carries a selection of plastic bins, fabric bins and even a mix of wooden and plastic sets for organizing. The benefit of Target, if you are thinking of organizing the whole house, is that you will not need to go from store to store to do it. They carry totes, bins, baskets and boxes in so many colors, shapes and styles that storage solutions for the whole family are available at Target.
The store has plastic, metal and fabric options for every room in your house. The kitchen drawers, the laundry room and all of the closets can all be organized with a one stop shopping trip to Target. Wooden shelving units (that actually look pretty good) are on sale this week starting under $30 as are plastic storage totes and other space saving and organizing items. The storage totes make great bins for holiday decorations and will protect them from moisture, bugs and dust better than the cardboard as well.
Walmart carries a line of storage bins and totes although I have to say that Target has a bigger selection if you are looking for large sizes with lids. If you are looking for tiny ones with handles and lids for make up, school supplies and other small items, Walmart has a great selection. The prices here are around $1 to $3 for these small storage solutions.
The store also carries shelves, crates and fabric containers but for the quality, selection and price, I would still say that Target has Walmart beat this week because of their current sale and the variety fresh spring colors and styles currently at Target.
Often, one of the simplest things that you can do to keep your home organized is to keep the boxes that items come in for storage. I did not use to do this and have half of my shoes stored in plastic shoe boxes, but now that I do save the boxes, I can find exactly what I am looking for faster and I save money not having to buy a new plastic bin every time I buy new shoes.
It sounds simple, but it works with many toys as well. Remember how nicely the items stack in the stores on shelves because they are in boxes. They can be stored nicer and items are found easily because they are marked well. There is no reason our closets and storage areas can not be as nice looking as store shelves, and we can often do it without spending an extra dime on storage solutions.
