ShamRockin' for a Cure Draws Crowd of Party-Goers

The benefit to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis research held at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater had a goal of $100,000.

Hundreds of people filled the stage and orchestra seating area of Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Saturday, all there for the ShamRockin' for a Cure fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis.

Mary and Chris Guiney of Alpharetta founded ShamRockin' for a Cure to help their friends, Pam and Jon Baker. They found out both of the Bakers' children had CF. They watched their friends battle the disease for several years.

The party fundraiser was their way to help some friends.

Silent and live auctions and ticket purchases were the means to raise a stated goal of $60,000, but on Saturday night, that goal was set at $100,000. Live auction items included a trip to the Emmy Awrds, a custom kitchen, bathroom or bar remodel, a personal room design with HGTV star Vern Yip, a 2011 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Deluxe motorcycle and a trip to the American Idol finale.

Food and drink were donated, with corporate, business and private sponsorships heping the cause.
