Rugby Returns to the Polo Fields
Milton resident Trey Dickson says the Hotlanta Sevens tournament continues in its third year.
Rugby will be the name of the game on the Polo Fields just north of Milton and Alpharetta next month when the Hotlanta Sevens tournament returns for a third year.
The Atlanta Old White Rugby Football Club and The Atlanta Harlequins–a women's team–will be the hosts. The tournament will be Saturday, July 14, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and it's open to the public.
"Last year's attendance was around 400 people and 38 teams," said Trey Dickson, a Milton resident, player and representative of the Old White club. He also owns a South Forsyth business, and his wife, Tasha, plays for The Atlanta Harlequins.
The tourney hotel is Holiday Inn Express - Windward Pkwy and the social will be next door at the Tilted Kilt - Alpharetta, Dickson said.
"We have Men's Premier, Men's Social, Men's Collegiate, Women's Premier, Women's Collegiate, and U19 Boys Divisions." he said.
The Old White and Harlequins teams were the 2011 Premier Men and Women's Division winners.
Alpharetta Rugby Football Club, which has players from Milton, Alpharetta and a few other local high schools, will participate in the tournament.
Dickson said Rugby 7's is now an Olympic sport for men and women and will played at the 2016 Rio Summer Games. He said his team, Old White, has been in the top 10 7's team in the nation the past 3 years. The Harlequins came in 9th in the nation last year at the National Championship in San Francisco.
Entry fees for teams range from $100-$300 for the premier division, but register by July 2 or the team will pay a $50 late fee. Electronic registration is available on the Old White and Atlanta Harlequins' websites. Or email Tasha Mannino‐Dickson for more information.
