Readers' Choice: Best Sweet Tea Found at Smokejack

This week's survey results point to a downtown Alpharetta restaurant as having the best of this Southern mainstay.

After a week of voting, Alpharetta-Milton Patch readers chose where to get the Best Sweet Tea, and the winner was Smokejack restaurant.

The restaurant is known especially for its barbecue, fried pickles and use of "Southern" vegetables. But that attention to the area's roots may be why its sweet tea got the nod from Patch visitors.

Owner Dave Filipowitz opened the restaurant in downtown Alpharetta when the first proposal for a downtown revitalization was just getting going. It's been many long years and now, three plans later, he's finally seeing some action downtown. The rerouting of Haynes Bridge Road to make way for the downtown City Center construction has begun, thanks to voters approving a $29 million bond referendum last November.

He splits his time between this restaurant, his Post Road Smokejack restaurant–and his family. Stop by and say hello if you can catch him, and try some fried pickles with your sweet tea.

This week's voting wasn't as popular as the past two on preschools and St. Patrick's Day. Smokejack won with 35 percent of the vote, while The Corner Deli came in second with 17 percent of the votes. Mittie's Cafe was next in voting at 11 percent, but added in a review.

Next week we'll be asking you what's the Best Place to Prepare Your Taxes At the Last Minute. You have until 5 p.m. today to nominate a tax preparer so it will be included on Monday's poll. Add your nominee to the comments.
