Question of the Week: Are Some Secrets OK?
Arnold Schwarzenegger said he kept secrets from his wife Maria Shriver in a Sunday interview on "60 Minutes."
Signed on to make five movies, 64-year-old movie star and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said he regrets lying to his wife Maria Shriver in a 60 Minutes interview aired Sunday night, a day before the release of his new book Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story.
Schwarzenegger last year admitted he fathered a child, now 15, with the family's housekeeper, and last night said he had other affairs and kept Shriver in the dark about career and other decisions, The Associated Press reports.
In addition to not wanting to tell Shriver about major heart surgery, Schwarzenegger told her he was running for governor only three days before his scheduled announcement, according to 60 Minutes' Arnold Schwarzenegger: Success and secrets, available for online viewing. Shriver also read about Schwarzenegger seeking a second term in the newspaper.
"That's the way I handle things. And it always has worked. But, I mean it does not—it's not the best thing for people around me because I sometimes—some information I just keep to myself," Schwarzenegger said in the interview.
He said he kept important issues from Shriver, a Kennedy family heiress, because he feared she would overreact and tell her well-connected family and friends, according to the AP.

Schwarzenegger added his secrecy, the result of a bodybuilding career in which he said emotional athletes lose, had caused his family and Shriver a lot of pain. She filed for divorce in July.
"So the thing that really meant the most to me kind of fell apart because of my doing," Schwarzenegger said in the 60 Minutes interview. "That is something that I will always look back and say, 'How could you have done that?'"

No, they are not alright. With the exception of what you got someone for their birthday, secrets have no place in a relationship. They will always surface at some point!
