The Georgia Department of Transportation announced that overnight lane closures begin tonight, July 25, on GA 400 northbound at McFarland Parkway (Exit 12).

The project will extend the third lane northbound from its current end located north of the McGinnis Ferry Road bridge to the Big Creek Greenway overpass, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Teri Pope, spokesperson with the GDOT, told Patch it will give commuters about two new miles of roadway in Forsyth County.

The overnight work begins July 25 and will continue every night that weather allows for at least two weeks. Weekday overnight work hours are 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work hours extend to 8 a.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. on Sundays.

One mile of the inside or left lane will be closed beginning one half mile south of McFarland Parkway. Daytime lane closures are not planned.

The GDOT assures motorists that the project is for northbound work only. No work will occur on GA 400 southbound.

The project, expected to cost about $3.37 million, also includes construction of the Abernathy Road northbound ramp extension in North Fulton County. A date for that roadwork has not been scheduled yet.
