My Room Rocks Is Every Girl's Dream Shop

My Room Rocks is every little girl's dream store. I think it may even be every big girl's dream. I loved it as much as my 9-year-old daughter did. It is such a fun shop and if you are female, you have to check it out. 

The front of the shop is a girl's boutique. Shoppers will find room decorations, clothes, handbags, books, toys, sleepover stuff, sports items and so much more. Accessories in every style and color are available. Teens can buy wallpaper and accessories for their lockers at school. Science kits and creative craft kits in a wide variety are available. Kids from local schools have even brought in their handmade items to sell on consignment as part of the owner's entrepeneur program she has began.

The best part of the shop is that almost everything in it is under $20. This makes it the perfect store to bring the kids for a treat or to run into when you are in need of a gift for a birthday party. The gift shop has something for all girls who are into being girly. 

If shoppers can make it past all of the peace signs, glitter, lights and fun items, they will find the foundation of My Room Rocks. Guests can create their own room with miniature furniture, wallpaper, windows and decorations. The shop has special boxes and all of the supplies to create a room that is just about perfect for Barbie to move right into. This is available for birthday parties or for people to come in and do during regular store hours. There are so many choices to be creative with. Guests will love designing bedrooms to decorate while there. 

Alpharetta Patch met up with the owner, Mary Sittler for an interview to get some background on the shop. 

When the company that her husband worked for filed bankruptcy, the couple figured that it was a good time for her to go to work. She wanted it to be something fun and something that she could do with her three daughters. With an MBA degree and an undergarduate degree in marketing, Sittler decided to open the shop.

"Growing up, I would spend hours decorating boxes to be rooms for my Barbie’s. My daughters did the same thing in our basement taking up a huge room we named Barbie land. I was always donating craft items to the cause and Barbie land was amazing," Sittler said. "Since this was such a big part of our lives, the idea blossomed into a business plan."

The family belongs to and her daughters attend and . All three of her daughters play soccer for Alpharetta Ambush and Concord Fire. She has also been a Girl Scout leader in the area and has spent time volunteering at her children's schools. 

"I think this business is all about the American dream. It’s about having an original idea and running  with it. I  have big plans for my company. Honestly, I hope to be the next Build-a-Bear or American Girl store," Sittler said.

"When girls design their miniature bedroom, they make so many choices about what to put into it that they are really proud of their finished product," she said.

Sittler has heard girls tell their mom this was their favorite birthday party, and the same thing from the party girl's guests.

"I know, however, that having a good idea is not enough to make a business succeed. I am limited on funds so I try to make every dollar count. I work long and hard to promote my store," she said.

She's done this by partnering with local schools and donating "design experiences to many charities and schools in the area. She's also exhibited at holiday bazaars and festivals.

"The American dream requires perseverance, hard-work, and a good idea.That’s what I’m banking on to make my dream come true," she said.

Sittler is a delight and her shop is so much fun to visit. If you have not been in, this is a must see store. Her inventory changes regularly and she is always finding new and unique items to add to her collection.
