Identity Theft Hits Milton Resident

A Wood Branch Drive resident told Milton police on Aug. 23 that someone tried to open accounts using his personal information and had a credit card cancelled and reissued to someone else's address.

The Milton man said Macy's sent a letter asking him to contact them about fraudulent activity on his account. The department store was able to cancel his old cards and reissue new cards.

American Express reported someone called to have his credit card cancelled and reissued to an Atlanta address. An American Express representative told his wife, who is the main account holder on that card, and said the caller only wanted her husband's card reissued.

The victim said he had Equifax put an identity fraud alert on his credit information. Someone using an Atlanta address tried to open two different accounts using his personal information.

Neighbors Report Thefts from Cars

Three neighbors reported to Milton police on Aug. 25 that they were victims to someone stealing items from their cars.

A woman on Petersford Way reported someone entered her unlocked car that was parked in her driveway, and took her driver's license, credit cards, purse, wallet and makeup bag.

A man living on the same street told Milton police that during the same time, someone took a GPS unit, an FM-rebroadcaster and a USB recharger from his car, which he believes was locked.

And a man living in the same subdivision on Kensington Farms Drive said someone entered his home through an unlocked basement door and took his son's Xbox, and also stole a GPS unit from his unlocked car.

Store Employee Accused of Debit Card Theft

A Petco worker called Milton police to report a coworker had taken her debit card and made a purchase without her permission.

The officer viewed the surveillance video of someone taking a card from a purse at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, returning it 20 minutes later. The victim said she wasn't aware of the theft until she saw her bank statement three days later with a $75 purchase at the Kroger Fuel Center south of the Petco.

The victim cancelled her debit card. The suspect had turned in two weeks' notice four days before the theft, and the store manager suspended her once she found out about the incident. A day after police began their investigation, the suspect told the store she is moving.
