Milton City Hall played host for the fifth annual Memorial Day Ceremony, highighted by a speech by Georgia's adjutant general and a roll call of the fallen.

Hundreds of local residents, veterans and elected city and state officials filled the seats under the tent in the City Hall parking lot.

Maj. Gen. Jim Butterworth, the adjutant general of Georgia, was the featured speaker, and he reminded the crowd of the affect the fallen have had on those left behind by telling personal stories from several wars.

Zach Ellision, a sixth grade Hopewell Middle School student, read his prize-winning Memorial Day essay.

The host for the ceremony was City Councilman Bill Lusk, a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seebees.

Heavy crosswinds and a low cloud ceiling prevented a military flyover, but the city was prepared with another kind of flyover–a flock of homing pigeons
