Hundreds of Cyclists Ride on Area Roads for Tour de Pink
Breast cancer fundraiser starts at Alpharetta's Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre.
Hundreds of bicyclists, some runners and walkers got up very early on a cool Saturday morning to raise some money for charity as the Tour de Pink began in Alpharetta.
The Young Survivors Coalition organizes the Tour de Pink, which raised $250,000 in its first two rides.
The start and finish line are at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Alpharetta as riders of every skill level got into line for the start of the event. Routes range from 100 miles to a 5K that started just moments after the long distance riders headed onto courses created for the mileage they wanted to cover. For safety reasons, all riders must complete their ride by 5 p.m.
Drivers should keep their eyes open, as the riders are traveling as far north as Lake Lanier as they wind their way through Alpharetta, North Fulton and Forsyth County.
Survivors participated in a ceremony before the ride began, paying tribute to their fight against breast cancer and those who they support.
