The city of Alpharetta announced that the relocated section of Haynes Bridge Road between Old Milton Parkway and Academy Street will reopen on Saturday, Dec. 29. The public can start driving on the new section beginning at noon.

Look for a bunch of city officials, contractors, politicians and media people to be out there on Monday morning for an official ribbon cutting.

After months of construction, it will once again be easier to navigate through downtown Alpharetta – and get to the downtown Publix. Relocating the top end of Haynes Bridge to the east allows the city to combine its downtown properties to build its City Center.

“The opening of this section of Haynes Bridge Road marks the first major milestone in the development of our City Center Project,” said Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle. “This section of the road had to be relocated to unify the 22-acre site and to allow construction of the new library.”

Alpharetta donated land to Fulton County on which a new 25,000 square foot public library will be located. The original path of Haynes Bridge Road ran through the middle of that land.

Delays in the relocation of utility lines along the road set the project back by four months.  As a result, the City was forced to alter its construction plans and close the section of Haynes Bridge Road back in October. The move was necessary to have the road open by year-end; keeping a promise the city had made to Fulton County.

“We promised Fulton County that the road would be open by the end of the year so they could start work on the new library,” explained Belle Isle. “Issues beyond our ability to control made it difficult, but we live up to our word.”
