Cogburn Road Bridge Project Gets Closer to Completion

The culvert that replaces the bridge has been installed, with the roadway alignment work starting.

Cogburn Road has been closed just north of Hopewell Middle School as crews replace the bridge. The  city has used its webite to give regular updates on th e project.

The final sections of the bridge were set last week and backfilling operations continued, according to the latest report. Soon the road will be back up to the new grade and alignment.

The majority of the bridge structure was set in place and backfilling operations began the previous week.

The bridge closed starting Saturday, May 19, and that section of Cogburn Road will remain closed until early August when the project should be completed.

The Cogburn Road bridge was identified as the top priority for replacement in the city’s infrastructure inventory from 2009. Based on traffic counts, there are more than 10,000 vehicles a day that travel over this bridge.

The bridge is being replaced with an arched culvert spanning the creek. Oxford-based Hitson Construction, Inc.’s price of $478,020.39 was the lowest reliable bid of the four received.
