Broken Asphalt Machine Snarls Windward Parkway Traffic

Work should be completed on the previously closed section of the major city artery, keeping both lanes open during peak commute times.

A problem with an asphalt machine being used to mill and resurface a section of Windward Parkway east of the creek kept one westbound lane closed Thursday long past commute time.

Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard said crews have been working on a milling and resurfacing project along a section of Windward Parkway between the Admiral Court subdivision and the creek at the bottom of the hill. The work was scheduled to be completed well before the evening rush.

"Unfortunately, a malfunction with the asphalt machine occurred and the work will not be completed until sometime tonight," Drinkard said in a traffic alert emailed today. "Due to the depth to which one lane had to be milled, that lane must remain closed through the peak commute tonight.  To do otherwise would pose a significant safety risk to motorists."

That work should be complete now, keeping both lanes of the road open at peak commute times.

Live near this road work site, or are you stuck in traffic there? Take a photo and add it to this story – not when you are driving, of course.

No, we're not hurting for content. This is just providing another resource for local residents, who put transportation problems as one of their top concerns. However, I would welcome any news you have to submit.
