Beach, Rogers Debate in Milton Over State Senate Seat on July 10

The North Fulton & Friends Tea Party will sponsor the debate at Crooked Creek HOA clubhouse.

The two Republican candidates in the state Senate District 21 race will take part in a debate in Milton sponsored by North Fulton & Friends Tea Party on Tuesday, July 10.

North Fulton & Friends Tea Party will hold the candidate debate at the Crooked Creek Homeowners Association Club House located at 14250 Creek Club Drive in Milton.

GA Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers and his opponent, Brandon Beach, North Fulton Chamber of Commerce president and a GDOT Board member, will debate the issues of the campaign beginning at 7 p.m. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this free event by the Tea Party group.

Moderators for this debate will be Karen Handel, former Georgia Secretary of State and Fulton County Commission Chairman, along with Jim Galloway, well-known Atlanta Journal Constitution political columnist.

North Fulton & Friends Tea Party Lead Committeeperson Michael Fitzgerald said in the group's news release, “This year is the most important election in our nation’s history, it is also a very important election in the State of Georgia.  We have to elect the best candidates for the serious challenges ahead.”

Tom Cork, another committeeperson, said, “I am excited that NFFTea was able to bring this important debate to the voters, and I know it will be an event the voters will not want to miss.”

With the debate, the North Fulton & Friends Tea Party members say they are continuing a well respected tradition of presenting a civic service for the community to hear high-profile political candidate debates and forums in a neutral setting during this important election year, free of charge.

Just Nasty and Mean

This is going to be an interesting debate as the candidates have differing positions on many key current issues. Just north of Alpharetta and close to Cherokee Co, this is an opportunity to hear the candidates explain their positions.

For it being Republican vs. Republican, they are two very different candidates. It will be hard for Beach to defeat Rogers based on his reasoned stance on various hot topic issues. It seemed to me that Beach was suggesting fixing from the inside while Rogers was suggesting mass changes and radical ideas. Almost a role reversal of the standard incumbent vs challenger. I found it interesting and rather sad that as a 5 term senator and majority leader Rogers mentioned time and again how when given a job government fails. Too bad nobody asked him why that doesn't reflect poorly on his performance and why all his suggested changes wouldn't result in more of the same. In all, I thought Beach answered honestly and based on how he'd actually vote, while Rogers played to the Tea Party crowd. Interesting that the GOP establishment for Cherokee where sitting front and center. If Rogers has establishment backing and Tea Party support he's unstoppable. Too bad, really.
