Alpharetta Scout, Dad Hike Entire Appalachian Trail

Hunter "The Kid" Stansberry and his dad, Craig "Diesel" Stansberry, averaged nearly 16 miles, but hiked as much as 29 miles in a single day.

Hunter Stansberry is only 12 years old, but the Alpharetta Boy Scout has already hiked more miles this year than most people do in a lifetime. Hunter and his dad, Craig Stansberry, hiked the entire length of the Appalachian Trail.

"Diesel" and "The Kid," as they are known by their trail names, hiked 2,184 miles from Georgia to Maine in 4 1/2 months. They hiked when the temperature was in the teens, and when it was over 90, encountering sunshine, clouds, snow and rain.

The father and son, part of Boy Scout Troop 69 in Alpharetta, were honored by Alpharetta City Council at its meeting on July 23.
