Alpharetta no longer participates in the Bulky Trash Amnesty Collection with neighboring Roswell and Milton, but that's not because the city doesn't want residents to safely dump these items.
Alpharetta residents can schedule free pick-ups of bulky trash items curbside by calling 678-407-6216.
"Alpharetta residents should use their curbside service option and not attend the Bulky Trash Day Collection," said Terry Porter, the city's Environmental Programs coordinator.
Editor's Note: Roswell and Milton continue the Bulky Trash program on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 8 a.m.-noon.
The city's spokesperson, Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard, said this fits with one of its goals as a Certified Green Community.
The following are additional opportunities to raise public awareness of environmental issues and to encourage residents' involvement as environmental stewards.
Household Hazardous Waste and Paint Collection, Nov. 12. A one-day collection will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12. Pre-registration is required. This is your opportunity to properly dispose of paints, fertilizers, poisons and much more. Another collection is planned for spring 2012. Businesses will not be able to participate in this collection. (The instructions and registration form also are included with this story as pdf files in the images.)
America Recycles Day, Nov. 15. Since 1997 communities across the country have come together on Nov. 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day. Take the recycling pledge.
Electronics Recycling, Dec. 3. Just in time to clear the house of old "toys," computers and many other electronics (except for televisions) will be accepted for recycling on Dec. 3 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Alpharetta Engineering/Public Works Department.
