A Magical Read: The Night Circus

Magical, elegant, timeless, fun, this book has it all.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern fits the bill for those who want a book that's made of starlight and dreams, literary but easy, pretty and wise.

The world is Victorian but muted, the women in rustling gowns and the men in bowler hats. The circus arrives silently, from nowhere. It is only open from midnight to dawn and everything within the iron gates is in shades of black and white. From an enchanted carousel to death-defying acrobats to a clock that does the impossible, the Cirque du Reves actually becomes a main character. But the real story is between Celia and Marco, two young magicians caught in a battle they can neither control nor understand, a battle that will indubitably end in a star-crossed love as grand and uncontrollable as the circus itself.

The Night Circus is Morgenstern's first book, which grew from a story she began during NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. It's already debuted on several bestseller lists and the movie rights were snapped us as quickly as a magician can pull a dove out of a hat. If you're looking for a dreamy, magical world where anything is possible, just grab a copy of The Night Circus, put on a red scarf and wait outside the gates with the rest of the crowd for the show to begin.
