Storybook Quilts Entertain Children at Alpharetta Christian Academy

Alpharetta Christian Academy students saw stories come alive earlier this month when Cheryl Vitalis brought a portion of the traveling collection of Storybook Quilts and their accompanying books to share with the elementary students.

Each Storybook Quilt acts as a very large and artistic illustration of its book and allows it to become more alive and interactive through the senses of sight, touch, and sound.  It was easy to see the interest in the students' eyes as Cheryl read the book with the quilt next to her and led the children through the activities.

Each of the 72 quilts, which are amazing in their level of craftsmanship and artistry, was sewn by the Chattahoochee Evening Stars Quilt Guild to foster a love of reading among students.  The books vary with their historical and cultural topic, and grade level.  More information about the quilts may be found on www.storybookquilts.org.
