Alpharetta Junior Raiders Wrestle Their Way to Gold
At Greater Atlanta Christian High School in Norcross, five Alpharetta Junior Raider wrestlers competed, all five medaled, and three earned GOLD medals.
The wrestlers competed in the GACS Spartan Beginners Tournament.
Enzo Bell (8-U/45) pinned both of his opponents to earn a GOLD medal. Despite being just a first-year wrestler, Enzo is now dominating beginner tournaments and regularly medaling in open-level tournaments.
Colson Wamsely (8-U/70) proved that his superlative performance at Lovett wasn't a fluke by again pinning all his opponents to earn a GOLD medal. Now that Colson has mastered the head and arm throw, he enters his matches with a supreme confidence and has become indomitable on the mat.
Brad Eden (12-U/85) pinned both his opponents to earn a GOLD medal. According to Coach Ken Thomson, "Since tasting victory at Lovett, Brad has found his inner competitor. He has demonstrated marvelous improvement. At GACS, Brad was relentless in taking it to his opponents."
Connor Mead (10-U/87) pinned two of his opponents, but lost to the eventual champion, to earn a SILVER medal. Coach Thomson stated, "Connor is highly athletic, but still needs to acquire more mat time and skill. However, when he does, watch out! Connor is going to be an outstanding wrestler throughout his youth and high school years."
Grant Thomson (10-U/90) earned a BRONZE medal. Grant came literally within a hip position of earning a SILVER medal. Tied 4-4 in overtime against the second place wrestler, Grant apparently executed a perfect over-under hip toss, but lost control after the toss, which enabled his opponent to earn the 2-point takedown and the victory.
