Alpharetta Historical Society Presents The Hembree Family and Farm
The Alpharetta Historical Society’s September meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Mansell House and Gardens.
Connie Huddleston will present on the significance of the Hembree family to early family history along with the Roswell Historical Society's preservation efforts and plans for the Hembree Farm historic preservation site. The house, kitchen and two corn cribs were moved about 200 yards in 2007 with money from a fund designated for special projects given by the Bank of North Georgia. It is still located on original Hembree farm land and all funds spent on the farm since the move have been raised by the Roswell Historical Society or were from grants. The annual fundraising event, The Great Flea Fling at Hembree Farm, will be held on the first Saturday in October.
Huddleston served as president of the Roswell Historical Society when the gift of the farm was first accepted by the Society and again in 2008. She now serves as one of two historic preservation professionals who are helping to guide the Society's efforts at the farm.
